The step shows DVU users how to create a cartonization rule. A rule tells the platform how to sort items before they are placed into cartons.
DVU comes with four standard sorting rules. DVU users can use these rules or create custom rules.
The four standard rules are:
-
Mixed - Cartons are packed with any items in the shipping order.
-
Same Item - Each carton is packed with one type of item based on the item code.
-
Same Item, Same Lot - Each carton is packed with one type of item based on the item code and lot code.
-
Same Item, Same Lot, Same Sublot - Each carton is packed with one type of item based on the item code, lot code, and sublot code.
Note Lot and Sublot codes can help users manage inventory with multiple attributes. For example, an item code is the same as style, lot is the same as color, and sublot is the same as size.
Creating a rule
Create a rule and assign it to a cartonization group name.
-
Go to Home > Settings > Cartonization.
-
Click Cartonization Rules.
-
Click the plus
icon.
-
Enter a rule name.
-
Enable Item Code, Lot Code, and Sublot Code as required.
-
Go to the Group field and select the group name that applies.
The screenshot below shows a new rule that will sort items in the shipping order based on the values in the Item Code, Lot Code, and Sublot Code fields. Items with the same attributes (e.g. the value in each field) will be packed together.
Variation
Instead of creating a new rule, users could select a standard rule and apply a group name.
Next step
After assigning a rule to the group name, open the Items /SKUs module and configure the cartonization setting for each item in the shipping order.
