NMFC Codes

National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) codes help DVU users classify commodities in a shipment.

Commodities are grouped into one of 18 freight classes by using numbers from 50 to 500. Each class is based on an evaluation of four transportation characteristics: density, stowability, handling, and liability. Together, these characteristics establish the commodity's transportability.

For example

20055 - tee shirts, custom silk screen
20056 - shirts, tee
20057 - shirts, sport
20058 - shorts (walking), jumpsuits, and other casual clothing
20084 - wearing apparel, work, men's and women's: blue jeans

Creating a code

1. Go to Home > Business Partners > Accounts.

2. Open an account (or create a new account).

3. Click NMFC Codes on the side menu. A new window displays.

4. Click the plus icon. A popup window displays.

On the popup window:

1. Enter a code.

2. Enter a description.

3. Click Save.

Managing codes

Go to the NMFC main page and select a row. Click the Edit icon to update a code. Click Delete to remove a code.
