This article shows DVU users how to configure variable lot and sublot codes and follow the workflow in a scenario.
Use case scenario
A baby formula wholesaler wants the warehouse to capture lot codes on outbound shipments. This information will allow the client to track trace lots to customers in case of a product recall.
Lot codes, in this scenario, are not captured when warehouse staff receive inbound inventory. Instead, floor staff capture the lot code on every case they pick for a shipping order.
Configuring DVU
Configuring the variable lot (and sublot) codes is a two-step process.
Note To simplify the workflow, this scenario only looks at lot codes. Follow the same steps to enable sublot codes.
Inventory
The first step is to configure settings on the Accounts > Inventory page.
-
Go to Home > Business Partners > Accounts.
-
Open an account.
-
Click Inventory on the side menu.
In the Lot Codes section:
-
Check the box for Track Lot Codes.
-
Optionally, check the box for Track Sublot Codes.
-
Click Save Partner.
Barcode Scanning
Next, scroll down and open the Barcode Scanning page:
-
Check the box for Enable Variable Lot Code.
-
Optionally, check the box for Enable Variable Sublot Code.
-
Click Save Partner.
Picking
Log in to the RF scanner and start a Pick workflow.
Scan a location or LPN (if available).
Scan an LPN or select Enter.
Scan the SKU.
Scan the lot code.
Complete the scanner workflow.
Verifying the lot code
Print a packing list. The document shows the lot code that floor staff entered while picking the order.
