This article shows DVU users how to configure scan pack to capture values for user-defined fields.
Use case scenario
A client wants the warehouse to capture the serial number of each iPhone and SIM card that is packed and sent to a customer.
Configuring DVU
Configuring the DVU platform requires customizations at the account level and item level.
Account level
The first step is to configure settings at the account level.
-
Go to Home > Business Partners > Accounts.
-
Open an account.
-
Click Inventory on the side menu.
In the General section:
-
Check the box to enable Track Advanced Inventory Details.
-
Go to the User Defined 0 field and enter a label.
-
Optionally, add labels to other fields.
-
Click Save Partner.
Note The first label must go in the User Defined 0 field.
Item level
The next step is to configure settings at the item level on the Advanced page. DVU users can configure these settings when creating a new item or editing an existing item.
Note When editing an existing item, go to Home > Warehouse > Items/SKUs.
-
Go to the Advanced page.
-
Check the box to enable Track on Shipment.
-
Use the checkboxes under the Property heading to enable the correct number of fields.
-
Check the same number of boxes under the Ship Validate heading.
-
Click Save.
-
Repeat steps for other items. (optional).
Note It is possible to enable user defined fields during the receiving process. However, that receiving step is not required when capturing serial numbers at a packing station.
Packing an order
The next step is to capture values at the packing station for the user-defined field defined above.
-
Begin the scan pack process as normal.
-
Enter the item’s SKU. The screen displays a popup window that prompts the packer to scan a value (e.g. iPhone serial number).
-
Optionally, the screen displays another popup window for another user-defined value (e.g. SIM card serial number).
-
Complete the pack as normal.
