Choose this option to combine multiple shipping orders into a single pick ticket. In the right circumstances, the wave ticket feature can reduce the amount of time needed to pick orders.
-
DVU users might use a wave pick ticket to combine multiple orders of the same item at or near the same location instead of issuing a separate pick ticket for each item.
-
If an order is especially large (e.g. 100 line entries), DVU users could divide the pick into smaller waves (e.g. 10 line entries per wave) instead of assigning the order to one picker.
Depending on local circumstances, wave pick tickets might not make sense if the storage locations for shipping order items are far from one another and require long travel paths.
Note
Waves offer some powerful features that aren’t obvious. Picking can easily be split up by zones if zones are used. Though a wave can have multiple zones and we also support picking by zone from the RF scanner. An order (typically large) can be split up into multiple pick tickets easily. The warehouse can split picks by equipment (e.g. levels in storage).
Workflow
Processing shipping orders with a wave pick ticket is a three-step process:
-
consolidate orders into a single wave pick ticket
-
pick the order and relocate inventory to a project station
-
deconsolidate orders - separate items by order and generate LPNs for each shipment
Before you start
Users can generate wave tickets with a paper-based system or barcode scanning. Our recommendation is barcode scanning whenever possible.
-
If the warehouse is set up for RF scanners, make sure Barcode Scanning is enabled (Accounts > account name > Barcode Scanning).
Wave tickets can run on Manual Allocation or Automatic Allocation.
-
To run wave deconsolidation, DVU users must create one or more Project/Staging locations.
-
To run cartonization as part of the pick and pack process flow, DVU users must configure the Cartonization workflow.
Creating a wave ticket
-
Go to Home > Warehouse > Wave Pick Tickets.
-
Click the plus
icon.
-
Go to the top of the page and select an account.
-
Click the Refresh icon to see current shipping orders.
-
Click the Pick To field and select the location for the inventory after staff complete the wave pick. (optional, see below)
-
Add instructions to the Pick Ticket Instructions field. (optional, see below)
Next, use the mouse to select the rows for this wave pick ticket. Then go to the top right corner of the page and click Save.
After saving, DVU removes the selected rows. The DVU user can now:
-
repeat the steps to create another wave ticket, or
-
click the X in the top right corner of the page to return to the main wave pick ticket page.
After closing the window, Davinci shows the current wave pick ticket(s) on the main page.
Search tool
Use the Search tool to save time and generate accurate results. DVU users can search records with several fields, including Pick Ticket # and Order Number.
Next steps
1. Change ticket status (only for barcode scanning)
To enable the pick, DVU users change the status of the wave pick ticket from Open to In Process.
To change the status:
-
Select the row(s).
-
Click the ellipsis and select Batch Edit Status.
-
Select In Process.
DVU changes the row color to green to indicate in process.
Note Click here to see the wave pick ticket flow on a RF scanner.
2. Print a deconsolidation report
Once pickers complete the pick, DVU users can print a report that helps deconsolidation/packing station staff understand how many units from the wave pick go to each order.
To print a deconsolidation report:
-
Click a wave pick ticket row.
-
Click the Edit icon.
-
Click the Actions button in the top right corner of the page.
-
Select Print and then Wave Pick Deconsolidation.
Davinci prints the report for the wave pick ticket.
3. Print Scan Packing list
This is a useful step when working with multiple orders that have multiple line entries.
Flow
When a picker finishes picking, they go to a packing station and drop off the picked inventory along with the scan pack documents. The packer scans this barcode and the packing station automatically opens the order. Normally there are many scan pack documents per wave.
-
Click a wave pick ticket row.
-
Click the Edit icon.
-
Click the Actions button in the top right corner of the page.
-
Select Print and then Scan Packing List.
Davinci prints a packing list for each order.
Next steps
The next step depends on the inventory managed by floor staff.
-
If it is e-commerce inventory, the staff would open Scan Pack to cartonize orders.
-
If it’s inventory that needs to be palletized, then the next step is deconsolidation.
Notes
Pick To field
In many cases, the Pick To location is a packing station. If the wave pick ticket involves bulky items (e.g. five pallets), the location could be a deconsolidation station near the staging area.
It is possible to leave the Pick to field blank. When warehouse staff start a pick and select the first pick to (drop) location, DVU updates the pick ticket and shows this location.
Pick Ticket Instructions
Adding instructions to this field can help floor staff when they pick the order. For instance, if a DVU user splits a large order into ten separate wave tickets, each picker knows they are picking a portion of the order.
Automatic allocation
If the DVU user sets the account to Automatic allocation, the Zone and Location columns can have storage location data. In that case, the DVU user could create a wave pick ticket based on location. For instance, the DVU user could create a wave pick ticket that sends staff to one zone, which could greatly increase efficiency and reduce the time between pick locations.
