Use this tool to change one item (the base item) into a different item (the destination item).
Scenario
A toy distributor ships two types of Uno cards (a children’s card game). One type is a single pack of cards. The other type is a two-pack item. The warehouse receives an order to ship 50 two-packs. The warehouse has no inventory for that item, but there are enough singles to fill the order. The Convert tool lets the warehouse fill the order and effectively track the outbound movement of inventory at the same time.
Converting an item
The first step is to select the base item. This is the inventory that the DVU user wants to change into the destination item.
-
Go to Home > Warehouse > Inventory By Location.
-
Select an item and click the View icon. The Inventory Detail page displays.
-
On the next page, select the item row and click the Convert icon.
In the side panel:
-
Verify the base item at the top of the panel.
-
Go to the Converted section and click the Item Search icon.
Search for the destination item. Select the row and click Select Items. The Convert page displays.
Note The destination item must already exist on the platform. If it does not exist, stop here, open the Items / SKUs module and create the item.
Converting
On the Convert page, go to the Convert Quantity field and enter a number. This tells the platform how much inventory to move from the base to the destination. DVU automatically calculates the quantity if the UOM is different (e.g. from eaches to cases). Click Save.
Verify
Go to the Inventory Detail page. DVU automatically adjusts the inventory of the base item …
… and the destination item.
Possible error
Make sure the quantity of the base item divides evenly into the destination quantity. Otherwise, the Convert tool does not work.
In the example below, the user selects 5 eaches of the single Uno card item. The Conversion Quantity shows a decimal point which means the platform cannot convert the item. As such, the Save button is greyed out and inactive.
The solution is to change the Convery Quantity number so that the Conversion Quantity is an even number.
