A previous article showed DVU users how to configure a tariff with a simple CWT rate. This article builds on that knowledge and shows DVU users how to apply different CWT rates with the Freight Class tool.
Adding freight class rates
-
Open or create a basic CWT rate tariff. (click here to learn how).
-
Scroll across the page and enter a rate in freight class fields (e.g. 50, 55, 60, etc.) as needed.
-
Click Save.
-
Repeat the steps to add another route.
Configuring a shipment/load
Now apply the CWT freight class rate to a shipment/load or pending quote.
First, create (or open) a shipment/load and enter details.
Note Click here to learn how to enter the minimum details.
-
Open a shipment/load (or create one).
-
Click Commodities on the side menu.
-
Click the plus
icon to create a new record or open an existing record.
In the side panel:
-
Add a description.
-
Enter a shipment/load weight. This is a required field, and the value must be greater than zero.
-
Enter a freight class number that connects with the rates in the rate tariff table.
-
Click Save.
DVU creates/updates a record.
Checking the calculation
Return to the General page. DVU dynamically pulls together the CWT freight class rate for this route from the Rate Tariffs table, plus the weight and freight class from the Commodities page.
Based on these figures, DVU calculates the Total Revenue.
In the screenshot below, DVU calculates Total Revenue ($2500 + FSC) based on a $25 CWT rate for freight class 50 (and 10,000 pounds).
Option
If we change the freight class to 60 on the Commodities page and leave all other fields unchanged, DVU automatically pulls in the correct CWT rate ($35) from the Rate Tariffs table and calculates a new revenue number.
