A previous article showed DVU users how to create a basic rate tariff. This article builds on that knowledge and shows users how to:
-
create a rate tariff using the cost per hundred weight (CWT) formula
-
configure a shipment/load with a CWT rate tariff
Note Click here to learn how to create and apply CWT Freight Class rates.
About CWT rates
CWT rates are based on three inputs:
-
a rate per 100-pound unit (excluding accessorials, FSC, and service class charges)
-
the freight weight (in pounds)
-
the number of units (weight divided by 100)
Creating a CWT record
The first step is to create a table with a CWT rate.
-
Go to Home > Transportation > Rate Tariffs.
-
Click the plus
icon to create a new record.
-
On the General page, click the Type field and select a CWT option. (see below)
-
Enter a description.
-
Fill in the remaining fields as needed.
-
Click Save.
Type options
The Type drop-down menu has three CWT options:
-
LTL, CWT city to city
-
LTL, CWT zip code to zip code
-
FTL, CWT city to city
Adding table details
Next, create one or more routes and enter CWT rates.
-
Click the Table Detail link on the side menu.
-
Click the plus
icon to create a row.
-
Enter a Start and End point for the route. Use a format (e.g. city or zip code) that matches the Type option selected above.
-
Enter a Max Weight (required).
-
Enter a figure in the Rate column (dollars per CWT unit).
-
Click Save.
-
Repeat the steps to add another route.
Deleting records
To remove a row from the table:
-
Click the grey area of a row. It becomes blue.
-
Click the minus
icon.
-
Click OK in the confirmation popup window.
Configuring a shipment/load
This step shows DVU users how to apply the CWT rate in a shipment/load or pending quote.
-
Open or create a shipment/load or pending quote.
-
On the General page, click the Rate Tariff field and select the CWT rate tariff file for this route.
-
Click Commodities on the side menu.
-
Click the plus
icon to create a new record or open an existing record.
In the side panel:
-
Add a description.
-
Enter a shipment/load weight. This field is required, and the value must be greater than zero.
-
Click Save.
Note The weight in the Commodities field should be equal to or less than the Max Weight figure in the CWT rate tariff table. If the Commodities weight is greater, DVU cannot calculate a revenue figure for this shipment/load, and the result will be zero.
DVU creates/updates a record.
Managing records
-
Double-click a record to update information.
-
Click the minus
icon to delete a record.
Checking the calculation
Return to the General page. DVU dynamically pulls the CWT rate for this route from the Rate Tariffs table and the weight from the Commodities page.
Based on these figures, DVU calculates the Total Revenue.
-
(12,000 pounds / 100 = 120 CWT units x $25 rate = 3000)
Tip If the Total Revenue figure does not display, clear the Rate Tariff field and select the CWT tariff again.
