This article shows DVU users how to create a kitting work order.
A warehouse may receive already prepared kits which can be shipped as is. If the warehouse does not have pre-prepared kits to fulfill a shipping order, then warehouse staff can generate a work order that directs staff to build kits using available raw materials or components.
Note When the warehouse uses a work order to build kits, the platform assigns a unique SKU to the kits.
Before you start
Before DVU users can create a work order to pick a kit, they must first create a kit inside the Kits / BOM module with the Does Not Require Assembly feature disabled. Copy the kit code to save time in the next step (Creating a kit).
Opening the kitting template
The first step is to open the kitting template.
-
Go to Home > Orders > Work Orders.
-
Click the plus
icon.
-
Select Kitting on the drop-down menu. A new template displays.
Creating a kit
Next, fill in the required fields.
-
On the Summary page, select an account.
-
Add an Order Number.
-
Click the Kit Code icon.
A new window displays. Search for the kit code.
-
Enter letters into the search field. The platform auto-suggests possible matches.
-
Select a row.
-
Click Select Items.
The template returns to the General page and shows two pieces of information:
-
the selected kit code
-
the maximum number of kits that can be built with the existing inventory
In the screenshot below, it is possible to build 236 kits based on the current mix of inventory for each kit component.
Next, fill in the key fields:
-
select a final location (normally a project location) for the completed kits
-
enter the number of kits to create
-
enter an LPN
Click the Allocate Raw Materials button, and then save.
After clicking the Allocate Raw Materials button, DVU displays item information in a table. The table shows the kit code, the build location, the item code of each kit component, and the quantity ordered.
Creating a pick ticket
Finally, change the status of the work order to In Process and then save. This action causes the template to generate a pick ticket.
Click Pick Ticket on the side menu to see the details. Like any pick ticket display, the page shows a pick ticket number, the items to be picked, plus their location and quantities.
Now floor staff can pick the kit with an RF scanner, just like any shipping order.
When staff complete the pick, the DVU user comes back to the UI and changes the order status to Complete. When complete, the platform:
-
reduces the quantity of each kit component (based on the number of kits completed), and
-
increases the kit inventory in the final storage location
