When creating a kit inside the Kits / BOM module, DVU users must enable or disable the Does Not Require Assembly option. This article explains the consequences of each option.
Enabled or disabled
If enabled, the platform assumes the components that go into the kit will be picked as separate SKUs and then cartonized together at the packing station. In other words, this kit - as a separate item with a unique SKU - does not exist in the warehouse.
If disabled, the platform assumes the kit exists as a unique item with a unique SKU in the warehouse. When a DVU user creates a shipping order, the platform treats the kit as a separate item that floor staff will pick.
Example
A DVU user creates a shipping order with two kits (KIT-001 and KIT-002). KIT-001 does not require assembly. KIT-002 requires assembly.
-
On the Line Entries page, the shipping order automatically breaks KIT-001 (no assembly) into its individual components (item codes MEN-001 and MEN-002 in the below screenshot). The screenshot also shows the pickable quantity for each item. With these inventory levels, it is possible to build 2000 KIT-001 kits; the maximum number of kits is set by the item with the lowest inventory quantity.
-
In contrast, the shipping order does not display the individual components of KIT-002 (requires assembly) and instead shows the kit (KIT-002) as a unique SKU. The screenshot below shows there are no pickable kits available for KIT-002.
Kitting
If a DVU user disables Does Not Require Assembly, floor staff need to build the kits to fulfill the shipping order. DVU users can create a special type of work order, called Kitting, to build the inventory for that shipping order.
