This article demonstrates a Forward Picking replenishment scenario. It shows the platform configurations, workflow, and results.
Overview
Forward Picking is similar to Pick 1 with one difference. Forward Picking allows for more than one primary pick location.
When set to Forward Picking, the system generates a work order to replenish each primary pick location according to the conditions in the replenishment rule.
The pick ticket allocation and replenishment work order do not dynamically adjust to the quantity in the shipping order (see Primary Pick 2 for that feature). The scenario below illustrates that workflow and result.
Platform configurations
Accounts > General Properties
-
Inventory Allocation > Allocation Mode = manual
Accounts > Inventory
-
Break Larger UOM to Smaller UOM for Allocation = enabled
-
Automatically Allocate Largest UOM = disabled (required)
Items/SKUs
-
Set item primary pick locations.
-
Set replenishment rule.
Storage Locations
-
Identity at least one reserve storage location and make sure it is not set as a pickable location (in this example DOOR2).
-
Make sure the primary pick locations are set to pickable.
Storage Locations By Account
-
Assign all storage locations to an account.
Scenario
A shipping order for 47 eaches triggers:
-
a pick ticket to pick from the primary pick locations
-
a work order to replenish each primary pick location
Inventory settings:
-
store-1 inventory = 2 eaches
-
store-2 inventory = 1 each
-
store-3 inventory = 1 each
-
DOOR2 inventory = 0 eaches and 50 cases (CS:4)
Results
Shipping Order page
The Line Entries page shows the order quantity and pickable quantity.
The Pick Tickets page shows the same line entries along with the primary pick locations and the expected planned (order) quantities.
Work order
The platform generates work orders that complete the requirements in the replenishment rule. In this example:
-
move two cases (CS:4) to each primary pick location (total of six cases)
-
move two eaches to one primary location
-
with existing inventory (4 eaches) in the three primary pick locations, the total pickable quantity is 30 eaches
The Inventory By Location module shows the results. Floor staff used the RF scanner to move 6 cases (CS:4) and 2 eaches (total of 26 eaches) to the primary pick locations.
-
This delivers the quantity needed to fulfill the shipping order (25 eaches).
Note If the shipping order quantity is greater than the replenishment quantity for all primary pick locations combined, the replenishment work order cannot fulfill the order.
