This feature lets DVU users decide how to manage item inventory when creating a WMS shipping order. Like many platform features, this choice has significant consequences across the platform.
Locating the feature
The Inventory Management feature is set at the account level on the General Properties page (Home > Business Partners > Accounts > account name).
Click the field and select an option: Automatic or Manual. Automatic is the default setting.
Options
Here is the recommended configuration for most environments that use paper-based inventory:

Disable bar code scanning (Accounts > account name > Shipping > Barcode Scanning

Enable Automatic Allocation Mode (Accounts > account name > General Properties > Inventory Allocation
If the DVU user enables Barcode Scanning, then choose Manual inventory allocation.
If the DVU user disables Barcode Scanning, then choose Automatic inventory allocation.
Caution
It is possible to set inventory allocation to Automatic and enable barcode scanning. However, that configuration is not recommended. There are two reasons.
