Replenishment is the process of moving inventory from a reserve location (rack or bulk storage) to one or more primary pick locations. In special circumstances (e.g. fulfilling a wholesale order or picking a large volume of orders during a busy seasonal rush), DVU will guide floor staff to pick directly from the reserve storage location.
DVU users can automate replenishment by creating rules that trigger work orders to restock one or more primary pick locations.
Configuring a replenishment system on the DVU platform is a two-step process:
-
Configure the DVU platform (see below).
-
Manage a replenishment work order (click here to learn more).
Definition
In DVU, a primary pick location is a permanent storage space for a pickable item. This is different from a reserve (e.g. bulk or rack) storage location that holds inventory which generally cannot be picked.
Configuring baseline settings
Complete these baseline steps to enable inventory replenishment.
-
Accounts template - Configure four fields: Allocation Mode (Inventory page), Inventory Allocation (General page), Barcode Scanning, and Replenishment (Work Orders page).
-
Storage locations - Create one or more pickable and non-pickable locations.
-
Items/SKUs - Specify one or more primary pick locations for each item in the shipping order.
-
Items/SKUs - Create a replenishment rule for the item.
1. Configuring the Accounts template
-
Go to Home > Business Partners > Accounts.
-
Select the account name and click Edit.
Setting the Allocation mode
-
Click Inventory on the side menu.
-
In the General section, click the Allocation Mode field and select Primary Pick 1, Primary Pick 2, or Forward Picking. (see below)
-
Click Save Partner.
Important
-
If the warehouse has one primary pick location for an item, then select Primary Pick 1. This option does not allow staff to pick from a bulk location.
-
If the warehouse has one primary pick location and the manager wants to enable picking at a bulk storage location when the order quantity exceeds the quantity in the primary pick location, then select Primary Pick 2.
-
Forward Picking is similar to Pick 1 with one difference - the warehouse has multiple primary pick locations.
Setting the Inventory Allocation mode
-
Click General Properties on the side menu.
-
In the Inventory Allocation section, click the Allocation Mode field.
-
Select Manual.
Configuring Work Orders
-
Click Work Orders on the side menu.
-
Check the box to enable Barcode Scanning.
-
Check the box to enable Auto Generate Work Order Number. (recommended)
-
Enter a Work Order sequence code. (optional)
-
Check the box to Replenish on Pick Ticket Creation.
-
Click the Mode field and select an option. (e.g. FIFO or LIFO). (optional, the default is FIFO)
-
Click Save Partner.
Note Replenish on Pick Ticket Creation is the default setting. The other option (Replenish on Pick Ticket Compeltion) is under development.
2. Creating storage locations
Make sure the item is in a pickable location and one non-pickable rack/bulk storage location. The non-pickable location holds stock that replenishes the pickable location.
Note Click here to learn how to create a pickable and non-pickable storage location.
3. Setting the primary pick location
Set the primary pick location for the item.
Note Click here to learn how to set a primary pick location for an item.
4. Creating a replenishment rule
The rule tells the DVU platform when to replenish a pickable location. The rule defines a threshold for the trigger and the amount of inventory to move from the non-pickable storage location.
